DIY: PVC Pipe Stands

Need to add some last minute details to your fundraising event on a small budget? Consider using PVC display stands for photo booths and creative display stands!

PVC pipes are inexpensive, abundant, easy to work with and provide a multitude of possibilities.

Because of PVC pipe abundance and durability, many different uses than its original intent can be created. All you need are the supplies, a few hours, and your imagination!

First off, what is PVC Piping?

A polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipe is made from a plastic and vinyl combination material. The pipes are durable, hard to damage, and long lasting. A PVC pipe does not rust, rot, or wear over time. For that reason, PVC piping is most commonly used in water systems, underground wiring, and sewer lines.

PVC Piping comes in different thickness, widths and lengths. Your local neighborhood home improvement center will carry all the sizes and fittings you will need. This is a very common product and will always be available. Most stores aid in trimming the pipe for you as well.

Here is a basic diagram of a simple photo booth made with PVC:

Here is what you will need:

  • 4 10’ length of ¾” PVC pipe (Long Pieces)
  • 2 ¾” PVC L Pieces
  • 4 ¾” PVC T Pieces
  • 4 ¾” PVC End Caps

Here is what you will do:

Note: To cut the pieces a pipe cutter or basic hacksaw work best.

Our booth is 4.5? wide by 5.5? tall, so we cut two of the 10? pieces of PVC pipe nearly in half into 5.5? and 4.5? lengths.

From the third 10? piece, cut another 4.5? length and then cut the bottom supporting “feet” from the remaining piece.

If you want the booth to be free-standing, I’d suggest cutting four 12? pieces for the feet. My photo booth will be set up right in front of a wall most of the time, so I choose to cut two longer front pieces and two shorter back pieces (16? and 4?), but do whatever works best for your set-up.

Once built, you can utilize large clamps to clinch a fabric backdrop, or hang streamers or lights to the PVC pipe stand and viola- an easy to build, affordable fun photo backdrop!

Now, let your creative juices flow

Once you’ve built your first backdrop, and understand how easy it is to work with PVC Pipes you can create displays for auction packages, such as jewelry, or a sign holder.
